Surface Mining at Blagdon

There has been surface mining of coal on Blagdon land for many years, from the crude operations by the NCB in the 1940's to the sophisticated extraction and restoration methods being used today by H. J. Banks.

The restoration of what was previously poorly restored land to properly drained agricultural and parkland is a welcome outcome of the current operations at Delhi, Shotton and Brenkley.

Part of the preparation works were archeological surveys, and we were fortunate to find a good number of interesting artifacts, which are now displayed in the clock room. Please click HERE for a fact sheet.
