April 2019

Welcome to a very early April edition of the Blagdon Bull newsletter.  Spring has sprung and we have lots of events on the estate to look forward to in the coming months.

The Red Cross Open garden event is our first charity open day on Sunday 14th of April. As well as having access to the open gardens and refreshments we have stalls, health trainers, the army climbing wall, a falconry display and the usual tractor and trailer rides for visitors to enjoy.

Donations of raffle/tombola prizes are gratefully received and should be dropped off at the estate office. Cakes and buns can be left at the clockroom from 0930hrs on the day.

Blagdon residents and tenants social committee update:

On a cold, dark, March evening a dozen or so people kindly turned out for the launch meeting of the new Blagdon Social Committee "The BSC".  I am now delighted to say we have formed the new group and they plan to organise social events for everyone to enjoy on the estate.

Jessica Williamson is our Chairperson and if anyone else would like to be a part of the BSC or to give a hand at the events please email me;  Claire@blagdonestate.co.uk

The BSC's first ever event will be Easter Trails, on Friday 19th April,   2pm - 4.30pm. Tickets are on sale until the 3rd of April from the Estate Office and are priced at £1.50 per child. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult (free) at the event and refreshments are on sale in the clockroom until 4.30pm.

As well as the trail there will be competititions for the "Best dressed egg" and activities for children. The Easter event is open to the Blagdon staff, residents, tenants, their families and close friends.  Tickets are on sale on a first come first served basis.  Tickets cannot be purchased on the day (or after the 3rd of April) as the new committee would like to have the numbers in advance.

Here's hoping the weather is kind and the children (and adults) have an eggciting Easter time!

Happy 80th Birthday Tommy.

During a recent conversation with Tommy Pringle, the former Head Woodsman at Blagdon (between 1970 & 2004), Tommy made mention that he would be 80 in April this year. I hope Tommy doesnt mind getting a mention in this edition of the newsletter and to wish him a very Happy Birthday.

Reminder:-

The White Bridge remains closed.  Plans are being put in place to devise a schedule for the repair works.

Permit to Work Forms:-

Some tenants may be thinking about carrying out work to their properties.  If you do have plans we ask that you obtain a permit to work form from us.  This is to ask for permission, prior to carrying out work to your house.  This form is required to be completed  when the project includes any structural work, plumbing and electrical work and should be signed by a qualified tradesperson, with their own insurance in place.

Security & Signage:-

You might have noticed the new Blagdon signage. This is to inform visitors/public that the estate is private, access is "by appointment only" and that we have CCTV operating.

Blagdon Estate's security cameras have also been updated. The new cameras have Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) which is good news.  If you would like to have your car registration details added to our new system please inform Jill in reception.

Blagdon Estate is not generally open to the public.

North Lodge Gates:-

The North Lodge gates have been repaired and are now closing automatically between 8pm & 6am weekdays and are closed at weekends.  Access is still available through the Home Farm Entrance.  North Lodge will be opened when certain events are taking place throughout the year and when there are Blagdon cricket club events.

Local bobby's at Blagdon:-

PC 613 Lee Davison recently came to Blagdon to introduce himself.  He will be working with PC 8603 Andrea Teasdale as our neighbourhood officers.  They can be contacted on tel; 101 or by email; Andrea.teasdale.8603@northumbria.pnn.police.uk/Lee.davison.613@northumbria.pnn.police.uk if you have any non urgent issues or concerns to discuss with them.

The Old Blagdonians Coffee Morning update;

The coffee mornings are proving to be a real success on the estate.  Donations are accepted towards charities and its an excellent opportunity to socialise. The next coffee morning is on Wednesday 20th March.

Visitors to the Clockroom are kindly asked to park in the wooded area car park, behind the office. Parking in the Courtyard is for disabled visitors access only.

Residential & Commercial lettings:-

We welcome the new residential and commercial tenants at Blagdon. We wish them all the very best in their new properties.

New applicants for properties can apply through the estate website "lettings" section to be added to the waiting list. Blagdon currently has some large, detached properties for let and some commercial spaces.  Contact the office on tel: 01670 789621 for further details.

Dog Walkers:-

Residents and staff are welcome to walk their dogs on the estate, but please walk on the designated paths, keep dogs on a lead and under control.

The walled garden is very popular with dog walkers and unfortunately there has been an increase in dog mess within the garden. Signage has been put in place and we request that you please clean up after your dog particularly as the grass cutting season is upon us.
