Economic Benefits. Coal
has always been an important part of the North-east economy.
Shotton’s low-sulphur coal is a valuable natural resource and
mining it will bring 100 direct jobs and support many hundreds
more in the electricity generation and aluminium smelting
industries in south-east Northumberland.
